This is some of what I did\u00a0last Thursday:<\/p>\n

Cleaned the kitchen
\nTaught\u00a0Mark about graphing, the Mycenaeans, and possessives ending with -es
\nStudied
\nPrepared food
\nHelped Tim memorize something
\nMade a dessert\u00a0for a work party
\nStood in line at the post office
\nTook Mark to the library
\nWent shopping
\nGave 2 haircuts
\nHemmed a tux for Daniel
\nWrote a letter
\nAttended a work party
\nAttended a parent meeting at the high school
\nAttended a school band and orchestra concert<\/p>\n

At Richard’s work party that\u00a0night\u00a0a female engineer asked me, “What do you do?”<\/p>\n

I replied with a smile, thinking of all I did that day, “I stay at home.”<\/p>\n

I guess my simple answer made her worry about my self esteem, so she told me it’s the hardest job in the world to stay at home.<\/p>\n

Being respectful of her decision to work as an engineer, knowing that not all people have the option to stay home or the desire to stay home, and not agreeing that my life is hard, I mumbled something like, “I’m not sure about that…” and changed the subject.<\/p>\n

These conversations are exhausting. Any job would be difficult if I\u00a0didn’t embrace it, but staying home is\u00a0exactly what I want to do and I love it. Maybe I need to frame my answer so people didn’t feel like they need to reassure me while downplaying their own contribution to the world.\u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
